No map in Stronghold 2 is complete without sound effects. Whether it's a gentle brook, a waterfall or just a village centre- there are sound effects for everything in Stronghold 2. These effects can really bring your map to life in ways that other visual effects can't. To find the sound effects, simply click the speaker icon underneath the "back" button whilst in the editor.
The full list of sounds available in Stronghold 2 are as follows:. To place a sound effect, left click on the sound effect in the editor menu and then left click on the map somewhere: As you can see, when you place sound effects on the map, they are represented by the circular image-like shape.
Each image is different depending on what sound effect you are trying to place. You can also see on the screenshot above that the sound effects are also displayed as a yellow square on the minimap. Note that the yellow squares will only show on the minimap for as long as you are using the sounds menu. The same is true for the visible sound effects placed in the editor.
The sounds will still continue to be valid and will remain as they are unless erased, however you will only see them whilst specifically editing sounds. Simply select the sound pallete from the menu to edit sounds again.
Once you remove sound effects, there will normally be a slight delay in the game fading out the sound effects you have deleted. The same is true for any new sound effects you place instead of them- it will take a few moments for the game to adapt to the sound changes you have made before it will cross-fade the sounds and play the correct ones. Due to some pretty incredible effects within the game engine, the location of sound effects on the map will depend on which of your speakers the effects come out of.
Sounds on the left-hand side of the screen will play more out of the left speaker, while those on the right will play more out of the right. More advanced sound card and speaker systems will also play sounds from the top of the screen and the bottom of the screen in a similar way, being heard in front of and behind you. In addition to this, the further out the game camera is, the quieter the sounds become.
This means that sound effects can be a vital tool for drawing a player into your map. Unlike the previous games in the series however, all these files are compressed in. You may think this makes it harder to get to the files at first glance. And at first glance you are correct - however, because they are archived, it is fairly easy to extract the data from the. Firefly have since reused the same method of storing sound files in Stronghold Crusader 2, and therefore this tutorial will also unarchive the sound files in Stronghold Crusader 2 as well.
Before we can begin, we must find where the files themselves are located. This does however, depend on where Steam is installed on your machine. The default directory is in Program Files on a bit machine, or Program Files x86 on a bit machine. However, I will show you an easier way. Go to the start menu, type 'Steam' in the search box, right click on it then select 'Open File Location'.
Do note however, that the rest of the audio is extracted exactly the same way as shown here. User icon An illustration of a person's head and chest. Sign up Log in.
